Heston & Isleworth, Hounslow and Feltham Clubs
jointly support Radio West Middlesex.

Updated 6th December 2003

The three neighbouring clubs of Heston & Isleworth (D1130), Hounslow and Feltham, both in D1140 jointly raised money for the purchase of a digital audio recorder for the internal radio station of West Middlesex Hospital located in Isleworth.

The new recorder now allows bedside interview and requests to be recorded and subsequently played back as part of the daily programme broadcasts.

The radio station is entirely operated by some 30 volunteers and seen here is Eddie Menday holding the new recorder and cradle unit.

Radio West Middlesex first started broadcasting to hospital patients in 1967 with a record request programme aptly named ' Needle Talk'; a production that is still broadcast today on Saturday mornings.

The station has won numerous accolades and in 2002, was presented with a 'Special Achievement' award by the West Middlesex Trust.

Every penny that is spent on equipment, records and other necessities is raised by the station volunteers and through donations from local businesses and societies. The station motto is
      "A Friend at Your Bedside"

Since the move into the recently opened new section of the Hospital, Radio West Middlesex, using 'state of the art' equipment, now broadcasts 24 hours a day with the aid of pre-programmed recording held on  two computers. The station's programme together with TV,  BBC Radio stations, phone and Internet links are carried by optical fibre links to all patients in the new section of the hospital.
